The Elgeyo Marakwet government has begun disciplinary procedures for at least 380 striking nurses. A spot check revealed at several facilities revealed the health workers had been reporters, Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich said on Monday.
“We have established the situation is bad,” he said, adding the county will fire the nurses and hire others to restore health services. “It is not our wish to initiate disciplinary procedures against our nurses but patients have suffered and we can’t operate without nurse."
The deputy county boss said that they have been forced to recruit volunteer nurses to help patients in critical condition. Rotich dismissed claims by nurses' union officials that those recruited are not qualified.
