Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has termed the government prolonged TV shut down as unfortunate and a threat to media freedom. Speaking in Nakuru the Senator said that the government is not abiding by the constitution by shutting down KTN, NTV and Citizens TV stations.
"Over the last four days, Kenyans have been in information darkness. Section 34 (1) is clear that freedom and independence of electronic, print and all other types of media is guaranteed and that the state shall not exercise control over or interfere with any person engaged in broadcasting, the production or circulation of any publication or dissemination of information by any medium." Moi said.
He further expressed his disappointment at the government after they refused to switch on the signal of three the TV stations, despite a court order ordering the Communications Authority to do so. He added that the ongoing investigations can be done while the stations are on.
