IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe speaks on an alleged secret meeting with NASA principals

IEBC Commissioner Roselyne Akombe has denied ever meeting with National Super Alliance (NASA) leadership over election issues after the Supreme Court ruling.

In an interview with the Sunday Standard , Ms Akombe termed as propaganda screen shots of WhatsApp chats alleged to be between her and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
“I have never met the NASA leadership. I have met Tuju. Why is no one talking about my meeting with him? It’s a meeting I can publicly confirm because as far I am concerned, it was in the interest of the electoral process,”
the Commissioner explained.
Raphael Tuju is the Jubilee Party Secretary General.
Her revelations come at a time when a deep rift at the electoral body has been exposed. This followed a leaked memo from IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to CEO Ezra Chiloba demanding answers to tough questions that suggest the integrity of the August 8th election was compromised.
It has been reported that Roselyne Akombe is among three top officials at the electoral body that Jubilee Party wants out before the October 17th election.
The National Super Alliance, on the other hand, has called for the immediate resignation or suspension of five secretariat officials led by Mr Chiloba.
Dr. Akombe made it clear that her focus was on delivering a credible election, noting“I am not planning to tender my resignation. Now my focus is purely on a credible electoral process that will vindicate us.”
The commissioner was considered by many to be the face of the electoral body during the August elections owing to her constant press briefings on the status of the electoral process.
She also serves as a senior advisor to the Under-Secretary General (Political Affairs) at the United Nations Secretariat in New York.
She was in the headlines after being detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before being allowed to get on a flight to the United States shortly after the election.
