On Monday, there were reports that an image of the two had been seen on a famous rock christened Kidi Achiel (loosely translated to mean one rock) in Kayila village, attracting hundreds of pilgrims.
Hundreds of Legio Maria sect members claimed to see the image and danced themselves in celebrations next to the rock. However, only visitors arrived at the site early Monday morning, soon after the reports spread across the area, got the gist of the reported sighting.
Members of the sect who visit the rock on Sunday evening for prayers, as it is common with most of the caves and rocks in the area said that one sect member witnessed a sudden change on the rock surface on Monday morning.
Word went around that an image of Mary and Jesus had been spotted on a rock at Kaila village in Seme by Legion of Mary worshipers prompting the members of the faith to highly secure the place high on a hill while seriously performing prayers.
“I quickly followed the children to the rocks and upon setting my eyes on the one rock, I immediately identified the image and went down on my knees to pray,” Pamela Atieno, a neighbor said.
Within an hour of the reports, hundreds of visitors, the majority of them members of Legio Maria, arrived in vehicles and on motorcycles and bicycles while others even walked to witness the ‘mystery’.
However those who visited the site on Tuesday denied seeing any image of Mary and his son Jesus
“I came here a few hours ago and I have been looking at the rock. Honestly, I cannot see what these people are talking about,” said Fred Oduk, another resident.
Others said they had seen signs of ‘a revelation’ way before it happened. “For the past few months I have noticed some parts of the rock falling off,” said Mathews Ouma.
