Police warn CORD leaders against attempts to evict IEBC commissioners

Addressing the press outside IEBC offices Monday morning, Koome stated that police officers are under instructions to deal with anyone who attempts to cause chaos and disturb the peace during the march.

“Even though the Constitution allows picketing, law and order should be followed at all times. We have enough police officers present to deal with anyone out to cause chaos,” he said.
Koome called on politicians to use the right channels to air their grievances noting that no one will be allowed to intimidate IEBC officers.
He further warned CORD leaders against storming the offices with a mob saying only the leaders will be allowed to meet IEBC commissioners.
“Storming public offices is tantamount to sabotaging the economy. Our role, as a security agency, is to ensure that there is no chaos during the march.”
CORD leaders had on Sunday restated that they would hold protest march to IEBC officers in a bid to push them out of office.
In his address, CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka further called on CORD supporters across the country to march to IEBC offices saying the electoral body has no proficiency to run the next elections.
CORD’s calls for the disbandment of IEBC were amplified last month after the commission declared that the Opposition did not achieve the required signatures to proceed with the Okoa Kenya referendum drive.
The commission noted that out of the 1.6 million signatures submitted by CORD, only 891,000 were valid falling short of the required 1 million signatures.
