Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology
has been closed indefinitely after a student unrest Tuesday morning.
In a notice to students, the University blamed the
riots on a well-orchestrated plan to stop the examinations, which had been
scheduled for Tuesday, from taking place.
The notice signed by Acting Registrar Caroline
Onyancha stated that: “All students are hereby informed to clear and vacate the
University premises immediately but not later than 11:00am today, the 12th day
of April 2016.”
The incident comes barely a year after a similar
unrest led to the indefinite closure of the University.
Last year’s riots were sparked off by a group of
students who protested instances of anomalies in examination registration,
leaving ten students injured and property destroyed.
