President Uhuru Kenyatta has handed a brand new car to 23-year-old Igembe South MP John Mwirigi as promised.
The President said he would buy the independent MP a vehicle soon after he was announced the winner of the August 8 election.
Mwirigi traversed the constituency on foot and a bicycle for campaigns. "We decided to elect him. He had no money for campaigns but he offered good pledges and his manifesto was good," a resident told The Star. The youthful MP thanked the President for the gift, noting he will now serve his constituents easily.
The undergraduate student of Education at Mount Kenya University got 76 per cent of the votes cast. He succeeded Mithika Linturi who is now Meru Senator. Linturi's predecessor Kiraitu Murungi trounced Peter Munya in the governor race.
