Renowned Ugandan Music Duo Radio & Weasel Risk Being Arrested Shortly After Kenyan Visit... Here's Why

East Africa’s dynamic duo Radio and weasel, who were sued for defamation by their former manager Jeff Kiwanuka, risk being arrested after they failed to appear before a Kampala court Tuesday, July 12.

The singing pair was to appear before a magistrate in Makidinye Courts – but failed to show up for the hearing.

Jeff Kiwanuka, through lawyer Muwema and Co. Advocates, had filed a private case at court, says Daily Monitor.

“You are hereby commanded to appear in the court on July 12 to answer to the said charges whose particulars are contained in the complaint. Should you fail to attend court as summoned, this court shall issue an arrest warrant against you for your production to this court,” read the court summon in part.

Mr Kiwanuka alleged that the GoodLyfe Crew, Moses Sekibogo (Radio) and Douglas Mayanja (Weasel) defamed him in a video posted on their Facebook page on June 3.

In the video, the singing duo, allegedly referred to Mr Kiwanuka as a murderer – a claim that Kiwanuka’s lawyer say Radio and Weasel do cannot substantiate.

“By the time you published the offensive video, you had full knowledge that Mr Kiwanuka was not associated with criminal acts of murder or beheading and had no evidence to support your claims. And yet in the video, you create the impression that our client is a ritual murderer who was either associated with or is the culprit in the Ogema case,” Mr Kiwanuka’s lawyer stated in the complaint.

Radio and Weasel were ordered to pull down the video and make an apology in one of the mainstream newspapers before Monday June 20, 2016, which they failed to do.

Jeff is seeking USh500 million (KSh15 million) from each as atonement for damages.

Jeff Kiwanuka was arrested in May, 2016 after he was linked to child sacrifice scandal where an 8-year-old boy was beheaded and his head recovered near Kiwanuka’s bar in Busia, eastern Uganda.
Kiwanuka was released from prison in June 8 as there was no sufficient evidence to incriminate him.
