Matatu taut crucified

There by was drama at Mutunduri market, along the Embu-Meru highway when touts
staged a mock crucifixion of a colleague, causing a major traffic snarl up.
The visibly drunk tout, who is a former Akorino sect adherent, had set up at
crucifix by nailing wooden planks on a tree, before asking his colleagues to tie his
legs and hands.
They then crowned him with a thorn circlet, attracting tens of passersby and
causing a major traffic gridlock along the busy road during the midday episode
that lasted about 45 minutes.
FORCED TO DESCEND
The man, who is about 35 years old, and goes by the name Domi, was, however,
forced to descend from the tree by local Administration Police officers.
According to Mr Edward Mutegi, a boda boda operator, the man is known for his
theatrics and sometimes preaches to fellow touts and travelers while drunk.
“He climbed the tree by himself and then asked to be tied up. Many people,
including some tourists stopped to take pictures of him. He backslid from the
Akorino sect but continues to preach around here,” Mr Mutegi said.
The man later took a siesta on a bench at the bus stop to sober up, oblivious of
the noise by the passerby.
